The Early Childhood Occupations Education Program is offered as a one/two year course of study. Students will be learning about child development, developmentally appropriate practices, positive guidance and discipline techniques. Students will practice these skills at an on site child care center (Footsteps) here at WCTC on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. In addition, students will be required to volunteer at community child care placement sites on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays will be devoted to the academic component of the program with opportunities for planning preschool activities, assessing behavior and needs, and enhancing their skills needed for working with children.
Students who are considering careers with children are encouraged to take this program of study. Former students have pursued post secondary education for elementary education, speech pathology, early childhood education, social services, assistant and associate teachers at child care centers and operating their own family child care businesses.
