This one-year program is designed for juniors and seniors interested in health careers. Emphasis is placed on the academic foundation and core skills necessary for all health professions. Students have the opportunity to complete the requirements of the Maine State Board of Nursing, and become a Certified Nursing Assistant. The clinical component of the program is held at Waldo County General Hospital, Tall Pines and Harbor Hill. CNA certification is an option in both the AM and PM sessions of the program. Students who have entered nursing education consistently report that skills and knowledge acquired in this program have been highly beneficial.
Opportunities are also available for students who are interested in other health careers. Job-shadowing experiences can be arranged to meet individual student needs and interests. These options include physical therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory technology, medical office assisting and veterinary assisting.
